Why Asphalt Core Sampling Is Required to Accept Pavement Layers
Asphalt layer thickness and actual compaction can't be judged from a visual check alone — the surface may look uniform while internal thickness varies from spot to spot. That's why asphalt core samples (a cylindrical cut extracting a full cross-section of the layer) were taken after paving the internal roads at Hail Industrial City, measuring actual thickness and compaction ratio in the lab against MODON specifications before accepting the contractor's work.
